This school year, our Year 9 students enjoyed a rewarding exchange programme in Germany, giving them the opportunity to discover new cultures, practise foreign languages and build lasting connections with students from other countries.
The exchange was based primarily in Geithain, where our students took part in classes and activities alongside students from the Saxony International School (SIS). During their stay, they gained first-hand insight into the German education system, participated in workshops, cultural and sports activities, and lived with host families. This immersive experience allowed them to practise both German and English in authentic everyday situations.
The programme also included a visit to the city of Leipzig, one of the region's main cultural and historical centres. Students explored its iconic streets, admired its architectural heritage and learned about the city's significant contribution to German history, music and culture.
Another highlight of the trip was the excursion to Berlin. In the German capital, students visited some of the city's most famous landmarks, including the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag and several sites connected to the history of the Berlin Wall. This visit provided valuable insight into modern European history and helped students better understand the events that have shaped the continent over recent decades.
Beyond the cultural visits, the exchange offered a unique opportunity to develop independence, strengthen social skills and embrace new perspectives. Students returned home with new knowledge, international friendships and unforgettable memories that will stay with them for years to come.
This experience reinforces the school's commitment to an international education that promotes language learning, cultural exchange and the development of open-minded, responsible citizens who are well prepared for an increasingly global world.
