On February 21, 2026, our school hosted the 5th Joan Caba Memorial Chess Tournament, an event that is now firmly established in the school calendar and dedicated to the memory of Joan Caba, a beloved chess teacher and one of the main promoters of this discipline at our school.
The tournament brought together around thirty participants, both from the school and external players, who demonstrated not only a high level of skill, but also sportsmanship, concentration, and respect for their fellow competitors. Throughout the day, there were many closely contested matches, with strategic moves and tight endgames that kept the excitement alive until the very last moment.
This competition is much more than just a tournament: it is a tribute to the passion for chess that Professor Joan Caba successfully passed on from generation to generation. His legacy remains very much alive, and each year new students discover the values of this sport: patience, reflection, perseverance, and fair play.
On behalf of the school, we would especially like to thank the current extracurricular chess teacher, José Sequera, for his commitment and dedication, as well as the collaboration of the Chess Club of L’Hospitalet de l’Infant, which has helped make another edition of this very special tournament possible.
Congratulations to all the participants and thank you to everyone who made this meaningful day possible. See you at the next edition!
