The students of Socrates Educa International School have taken part in a very special initiative with elderly people from several care homes in Reus. Through the project “One Letter, One Dream”, the children wrote more than twenty letters to residents of the Marià Fortuny, Ballesol, and Horts de Miró care homes to help combat unwanted loneliness during this school year.
This activity was promoted by a teacher who observed firsthand how many elderly people can feel lonely, especially when they do not receive many family visits. The grandparents replied with their own letters to the students and exchanged Christmas postcards just before the Christmas holidays. In addition, the school gave them the school’s internal newsletter.
The aim of the project is to create intergenerational bonds, encourage empathy, and allow young people to learn about the lives and experiences of older generations.
Everyone hopes to continue this initiative in January!
