            Students Break New Ground
Work has begun this week on the development of new study areas around the school to be used as outdoor learning resources in the sciences and also
help connect EIC learners with the natural world.
Students from ESO4 & Batxillerat have volunteered to help turn some of the unused green spaces into more accessible areas to aid the study of Biology
and Environmental Science. Initially, they will clean up the sites before laying pathways and constructing features that will include beehives, bug hotels,
seating and small huts and domes for growing and storage.
As well as creating a place to study 'out in the field' the volunteers will also learn how to use garden and construction tools, learn how to design and
build small insect and pollinator habitats, as well as develop core skills for their future such as a systems thinking approach to problem solving, planning,
communication and organisation skills to deliver this project in response to the requirements of teachers and the curriculum.
The project will allow students to bring their own ideas of how the spaces can be developed and also, most importantly, give them the opportunity to
pursue their personal interests while working alongside other professionals. (Headteacher Mr Day said, "This is a great opportunity for our students to work
with experts from industry and environmental organisations. We are seeking support from anyone who has expertise in many areas from building garden
ponds to knowledge of insects and flora").
"I want to use this opportunity to find out more about environmental sciences and ecology", explained Spojmay, a 1st year IB student. The natural
environment is very important to me and I am considering my options for university. I am hoping that this project will help me find out if that is the career
            path for me."
Watch out for more news and opportunities to help!
