A student from Socrates Educa International School in Salou wins the IX “El Dret i Tu” Contest in the Social Responsibility Program promoted by the Law Firm Roca i Junyent. Laia Alegret from Socrates Educa International School in Salou (ESO 4) has won the first prize of the IX “El Dret i Tu” Contest in the Social Responsibility Program promoted by the Law Firm Roca i Junyent with a project entitled “The law and the Covid-19: Covid passport” presented last year, when she was in the 3rd year of ESO. More than 8,000 students from 170 different schools participated in this event, and the awards ceremony was held at the Il·lustre Col·legi de l’Advocacia de Barcelona, with prestigious lawyers in attendance.
“El Dret i Tu” is aimed at high school students (3rd and 4th years of ESO). The programme consists of numerous sessions in schools where students are
explained the civic value of laws and regulations and the importance of their compliance for coexistence in a harmonious and orderly society. Questions
such as: why do laws exist? Why do they have to be respected? What are the benefits derived from respect for the individual and for the entire group of citizens? This is what the Lawyers Social Responsibility Project sets out for the student to question.

The organizers of the contest give talks in schools to connect two worlds, law and education, which come together to bring young people to a space for
reflection and common work. After the talk, the students voluntarily prepare a work of their own choice. A jury of professionals from Roca i Junyent makes a first selection and an external jury of recognised and distinguished professionals chooses the winning entries. To complete the award-winning project, the two finalists will hold a debate on a topic chosen by the professionals at Roca i Junyent. During four previous sessions, the lawyers of the firm will train the students to prepare the exposition of the topic and the arguments for and against. On the day of the debate, the position that each team must defend will be drawn.

Topics such as freedom of expression, gender violence, image and copyright
rights, housing, LGTBQ rights or the rights of minors, among others, have been chosen by the students in recent editions.

This year, Laia Alegret was the winner so we take the opportunity here to congratulate her. Congratulations, Laia!
